Industrial computer tomography (ICT)

for component testing

The demands on permanent magnets and assemblies are becoming increasingly more specific and complex. It is therefore decisive to set the course for an efficient implementation with state-of-the-art simulation and analytical technology right at the start of the development process. To help support our customers during the product development phase, we have broadened our expertise and, with the aid of industrial computer tomography (ICT), we are now able to carry out metrological evaluations, visualisations and analyses on components in-house using 3D datasets. Using the ICT evaluation software VolumeGraphics, we not only do this during the development phase as well as the series production stage later on.

With ICT, a component can be completely scanned and reconstructed as a solid 3D model. The main advantages this offers are the ability to analyse the scanned component from the inside and being able to use the dataset as a so-called “digital twin” for all other analyses over an unlimited period of time.

The evaluation software can, for example, be used to carry out a target/actual comparison, i.e. the ICT data obtained from a real component can be compared with the CAD data of the target model.  Using the colour scheme, the dimensional deviation can be illustrated in a clear and descriptive way. The colour display primarily helps the tool constructor to correct tools in a targeted manner. This reduces tool correction costs and enables dimensionally accurate components to be produced even faster. Furthermore, porosity and inclusion analyses are able to detect any defects resulting from the procedure.

For our customers, using ICT evaluation software is highly advantageous in that the information content is significantly higher when compared to conventional measuring procedures, which enables the cause of any potential deviation to be determined, illustrated and remedied faster. This allows a more efficient setting of the development time until a component goes into production.
